Cowboy swaggers into town; Hello Nanjing on the defensiveIn addition to our pristine journalistic practices, we at Hello Nanjing steadfastly refuse backhanders and never write overly positive reviews of establishments that coincide with advertisement release schedules. Hello Nanjing - The premier expat social network for pleasant living in Nanjing Jiangsu, China
The 2014 Second Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing are centered around the concept of “A Vital, Human, and Green Youth Olympics,” and in promotion of this, Jurong welcomes the YOG to hold an event in their city that will allow more expatriates to understand the new developments and changes in Nanjing’s backyard.
To that end, foreigners working, studying, or living in Nanjing are invited to attend a volunteer tree-planting event near Jurong’s Mt. Mao on March 17, 2012. The summit of Mt. Mao holds both beautiful scenic views and, as home to an ancient Daoist temple, is a spiritual center.
For participants, the city of Jurong will provide transportation from Nanjing’s Xuanwu Gate to Jurong whereupon after planting trees in the morning, a lunch will include sampling of local strawberries and the special Ge Gen root tea. In the afternoon, guests will have the opportunity to visit Mount Mao, which features expansive panoramas of the countryside from the ancient Daoist temple located at the summit, and will be able to experience a spiritual ritual by Daoist monks. The full schedule can be referred to below.
Along with free transportation to and from Jurong and lunch, foreigners will also receive free admission to Mount Mao and its colorful, historical Daoist temples, gift shops, etc. This enjoyable and rare opportunity to witness Nanjing’s beautiful “backyard neighbor” with a rich and vast cultural history is sure to provide something interesting and valuable to everyone involved, while also making for a good way to start Spring and experience this green and culturally rich setting for yourself while making new friends.
In addition to the tree planting ceremony and activity, participants will have the opportunity to sponsor an impoverished student from the Jurong area. This voluntary sponsorship would be 1,000 RMB per year for three to five years, and an important element of this sponsorship is that, apart from the material support, these students will have the opportunity for communication and exchange with their sponsor or sponsor family.
If you are interested to attend this event and have further questions please contact either Mr. Giorgio Hong: 13905198786 (中文) or Mr. Barron Weyerhaeuser: 15150547637 (English).
