Innsbruck 2012 showcases over 1,000 young athletes representing approximately 70 countries. Present are the same 15 disciplines (biathlon, bobsleigh, skeleton, curling, ice hockey, figure skating, luge, short speed track skating, speed skating, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing, nordic combined, ski jumping, and snowboard) as those on the program for the senior Olympic Winter Games.

Just as with the first YOG in Singapore almost two years ago, new events have been introduced into the sports program, including mixed gender events as well as the first ever Olympic inclusion of women’s ski jumping.

Champions Lindsey Vonn (alpine skiing), Sid Crosby (Ice Hockey), Yuna Kim (figure skating), Benjamin Raich (Alpine skiing) and Kevin Rolland (freestyle skiing) are putting their extensive experience and talents to valuable use as Youth Olympic Games Ambassadors at Innsbruck 2012.

Athletes will also attend a comprehensive Culture and Education Programme (CEP), which will allow them to address key issues and learn new skills in a fun and interactive way.
